39 women have died violently in the first 23 days of January 2021. Project Harvest’s Team in Guatemala alerts the international community of the shocking increase of crime of femicide. (Femicide: the killing of a woman or girl, in particular by a man and on account of her gender.)
In recent days violence against women has been more evident, a problem rooted in the country, in part, by a justice system that does not promise an effective or prompt investigation or is so weak that the conviction rates are minimal.
Last year, the Public Prosecutor's Office registered more than 60,000 complaints of violence against women, an average of 164 per day.

Two hurricanes, Eta and Ioto, have devastated parts of Guatemala over the last two weeks. This video is showing the torrent of water destroying a bridge cutting off and isolating over 60 communities including some in which Project Harvest works. The people in these communities are telling us they have lost their food and clothing. Skin and intestinal infections are breaking out. Wind and rain have destroyed their bean crop which they rely on to bring in crucial income to buy the necessities of life. ...
